What does being Australian mean to you?

Kristoffa asked:

I’m writing a page on what being Australian means to me but I’m stuck. I don’t like cricket (oh shock horror an Aussie doesn’t like cricket) but just about any other sport is cool. I’m not massively patriotic.Obviously I’m not asking you to write my essay but just a few ideas would be greatly appreciated. Maybe something about the recent bushfires and the support Australia has given as my area was greatly affected by them.

Well I dislike AFL greatly, biggest crime in the world in Victoria.
    1. Multicultural influence and the way we have changed for the better because of it. Hope that’s understandable.
    2. The way we are able to walk down the street and not be discriminated against eg. because of what we are wearing or what we are doing.
    3. In relation to the bush fires my school had a fundraiser today and we raised $5000 + for the Red Cross appeal, so I think the way Australians come together and work as a team, especially when the worst disasters stike.
I think only an Australian would understand what it’s like to experience all these things we take for granted. I hope this is helpful!!
