Lissa Law asked: My son has three fire belly newts. One is about 2 1/2 inches long and the other two are 1 3/4 inches. Up until yesterday they were in the same tank as a couple of fire belly toads. We had to remove then hence the toads were attacking them. Early yesterday the bigger newt ate a cricket but the other two still refuse to eat. I have been feeding them the newt sticks. Any suggestions?

Elizabeth asked: I bought a 10 gallon tank today and I have a stick, water bowl, and sand in there along with crickets. I’m not so sure about the lighting I need. By the way, I’ve never owned a reptile before.

Leah~a.k.a Arbitor luvr! asked: Ok so there is a link for her pics,if it doesn’t work then when you cup ur hand almost half way,her head and abdomen is the size of the circle when you cup ur hand almost half way, then of course her legs reach out. Btw,she attacked a small/medium sized cricket this morning around 12:00 ish pm,but now it is 6:57pm and she STILL is ******* the insides out of it!She kinda has a cobweb string coming from her little bottom leading to where she is ******* the cricket from,is that normal? I thought it only took a couple hours for them to devour cricket’s insides out! My sister used to own a Red Kneed Tarantula or whatever ya call them, they look like Rose Haired Tarantulas, but it was full grown and it only took about 3 hours for it to **** the insides out of the cricket. My younger bro(11) suggested maybe it’s fangs can’t retract them from the cricket and they are stuck, but I doubt that. Also when I blow on her lightly she will start moving around and climbing on the screen cage, but she never let go of the cricket,I thought she would drop it. So basically if you know ANYTHING about Pink Toed Tarantulas and how long it takes for a baby to eat one, that would be great if you could tell me,and also if you think there is something wrong with how long it is taking her to eat the cricket, then please tell me so I can do something about it!!
THANKS!!

equestrianathletics asked: I found a wild baby gecko stuck in a glue trap a week ago. I was able to get him off the trap and unglued to himself using vegetable oil as instructed by many reptile specialists. He ate a baby cricket two days ago, but hasn’t wanted to eat since. Last night he was trying to hunt another cricket. I had to leave the house and when I returned 2 hours later, he appeared very dead. He hasn’t responded to anything I’ve tried to stimulate him with. He has not moved, and I cannot see him breathing. I am almost certain he’s dead. How can I tell if he really is dead or if he is hibernating?
I never keep wild animals. I always try to release them or seek out an appropriate habitat. I had finally just finished getting him unglued from himself just yesterday. I specialist suggested monitoring him for 1 more day. He had been given the opportunity to eat constantly with at least 1-2 live crickets in his box along with several live meal worms. My entire life has been dedicated to various animals including wild, zoo, and rare species. I just haven’t had prior experince with a gecko.
I don’t know how to make this any more clear, THIS WAS A RESCUE OPERATION NOT A “GAIN A PET DAY” Please understand I am well educated, former veterinary technician, and professional horse trainer. I grew up rehabilitating wild animals braught to the Cincinnati Zoo. I also participated in the JZ program there. My life is entirely dedicated to animals and their well being. I don’t keep wild animals as pets. My experience in a desert climate is new, and my experience with lizards and geckos is quite novice still. As I mentioned I was in touch with multiple specialists. These specialists are all very highly regarded in their field and recognized around the country. Rather than bug these kind people again, I thought maybe I could get a straight forward answer from some kind folks on yahoo. Please understand this was a RESCUE MISSION!!! This was NOT a capture and convert to pet mission. Please read my full question before assuming things. After all, you know what assuming does.

referralguru asked: I breed crickets for my reptiles, what sort of things do you recommend to line the top of their box with so that they can’t climb out. Some sa vaseline, some say sticky tape, I am worried this will stick the crickets to the box though and kill them, so I want something to make it slippery so they just fall back into box.

Pelon V asked: I have a about 20 gallon tank with soil covering the floor and some egg cartens and oatmeal and goldfish food and a wet paper towel. I have a heat lamp with a regular houes light bulb not to close to the tank I spray the soil 2 times a day. The female crickets always stick the egg thing where they drop the eggs in the dirt.
